There is no need to say, big cities are full of coffee shops and that’s what allows us to discover them at each visit. This is not the first time that our team goes to discover New York and its coffee establishments, and yet, each time, we make wonderful discoveries.
As the world’s largest city, New York has been a pioneer in coffee sophistication. The city’s eclecticism has allowed many specialty coffee establishments to express their art, and to showcase a product that is highly thoughtful than what you’d find in the big chains that serve a first-price product. So it’s always a pleasure to visit the Big Apple, to discover its neighborhood businesses and what they have to offer.
As microbrewers and coffee experts, we are always eager to discover new things, because we believe that many other coffee experts have an interesting product to offer, and as flavor communicators, we enjoy sharing our knowledge and what we try to express with our product.
We present you with three favorites:
Blank Street Coffee – Several locations in New York
Both a micro-refactor and a small New York coffee chain with 27 locations, Blank Street Coffee has not grown out of control. We ordered a cortado and a flat white. The cortado was full of acidity, and a mild bitterness lingers in the mouth with each sip, without lingering too long. The flat white was just light enough, just full-bodied enough, and proved to be a perfect choice for an afternoon walk. The establishment we visited was at 277 Bedford Avenue in Brooklyn, in the heart of Williamsburg, the borough’s most vibrant neighborhood. It’s the perfect place to walk and window shop away from the skyscrapers, in a more casual atmosphere than Manhattan.
N.B.: The café we visited is located just a few meters from Joe’s Pizza, one of the most famous pizzerias in the world.
Dreamers Coffee House – 54 W Henry Street, Manhattan, New York
This coffee house is a little gem hidden in the heart of Chinatown, Manhattan. It’s just a small sign and a small room on a less touristy street, and near the water. It is quickly accessible from the foot of the Brooklyn Bridge, but on the Manhattan side. It is therefore the ideal place to go and get a specialty coffee before starting the (magnificent) walk on the upper part of the Brooklyn Bridge, and where it will be possible to observe the Statue of Liberty in the distance, coffee in hand. You can have a latte or an américano here, as the espresso roasted by Counter Culure has notes of brown sugar and butter, which can be drunk black, but which also goes well with micro-foamed milk.
Coffee at Dreamers is an outstanding feature of the cafe, with a variety of specialty drinks and high-quality beans. The menu includes classic espresso drinks as well as unique seasonal options and indulgent treats such as lattes and mochas topped with whipped cream. In addition to coffee, Dreamers also offers a selection of teas, smoothies and fresh-squeezed juices. For those in need of a snack or light meal, Dreamers offers an assortment of pastries, sandwiches and salads. Pastries are freshly baked in-house every day and include options such as croissants, muffins, and scones. The sandwiches and salads are made with high-quality ingredients and offer a range of flavor profiles, from classic deli sandwiches to vegetarian wraps.
The staff at Dreamers Coffee House is friendly and attentive, providing excellent service to each and every customer. They are knowledgeable about the coffee and food offerings and are happy to make recommendations or answer any questions. Service is fast and efficient, making Dreamers a great place for a quick coffee break or lunch on the go.
N.B. On the street behind the café, there is a nano brewery of only a few square meters where you can find a ginger IPA reminiscent of kombucha or a light coconut Porter. Suggested before coffee!
Drip Coffee Makers – 12 Belvidere Street, Brooklyn, New York
Don’t be fooled by the name of this Bushwick, Brooklyn establishment, they don’t just serve filter coffee! Their specialty, however, is the pour-over filter and there are many local roasters. It’s the ideal place to discover New York roasters, but otherwise the latte is also very well balanced, without bitterness, but with a strong acidity that comes to find its place in the milk.
The cafe prides itself on offering a wide variety of high-quality beans and brewing methods to create the perfect cup of coffee. The menu at Drip Coffee Makers includes classic drip coffee as well as a variety of specialty drinks such as lattes, cappuccinos, and macchiatos. Customers can choose from a selection of beans sourced from around the world, with options ranging from light to dark roast. The cafe also offers a variety of brewing methods, including pour-over and French press, to suit every coffee lover’s taste.
In addition to coffee, Drip Coffee Makers also offers a selection of pastries and light bites. Pastries are baked fresh in-house every day and include options such as croissants, muffins and scones. The cafe’s light bites include bagels, sandwiches, and salads, all made with high-quality ingredients and available for breakfast, lunch, or a quick snack on the go. The staff at Drip Coffee Makers is friendly and knowledgeable, providing excellent service to each and every customer. They are happy to make recommendations and answer any questions about the coffee and food offerings. Service is fast and efficient, making Drip Coffee Makers a great place for a quick coffee break or lunch on the go.
The atmosphere at Drip Coffee Makers is cozy and inviting, with plenty of seating for customers to relax and enjoy their coffee. The decor is stylish and modern, with rustic touches that give the cafe a charming and comfortable feel. The walls are decorated with local artwork, adding to the unique and creative vibe of the space. Whether you’re a coffee aficionado or just looking for a great cup of joe, Drip Coffee Makers is a must-visit for anyone in the Brooklyn area.
N.B. This café is a few meters from Broadway Street, but not the famous Broadway! Don’t expect to get a coffee before the theater, you will be disappointed!
